The Biggest Challenges of a Technical job
In August, 2010, I began my new job in Annapolis, Maryland. It was a new place with the new people and new technology. I was so nervous and I couldn’t figure anything out. My mind was totally blank, but in the first week of my job I started getting assignments. All of them were unfamiliar work related to .Net programing code and required knowledge of software development and a strong knowledge of .Net programing. I’m not expert with them but I had great experiences on a system administrator. I can handle all system related jobs, such as installing Windows, Microsoft Office applications other software; and maintaining the servers’ and troubleshooting. However, there were too many assignments coming in and all assignments had to be finished in time.
Although I was assigned unfamiliar jobs, I accepted the challenges and started working on them by thoroughly researching work related and technical issues. I made a commitment to the job done and prove myself by accepting all technical challenges. There was no help, nobody to ask questions of, because all other people worked different zones. They were working in same project from California. I was the only one from Maryland working in the operation. I started committing myself to get job done with my technical knowledge. I gathered all my tasks into a “to do list” and worked with a technical manner. I divided each assignment into a couple of categories and slowly worked on my way towards getting each job done. I started finding some solutions through examples and deploying process. Google was a very helpful for this; in different ways, such as providing a lot of relevant information which I could turn them into a solution.
That was the experience that I gained in the field of software testing; afterwards, I jumped into a different technology. I worked for AT&T wireless as a Quality Assurance Analyst for two years. I was experienced at my technical job and everybody in the team was helpful, supportive and collaborative. Suddenly, I received an email regarding my lay off notification. In March 2009 I was laid off. I was shocked. I could not figure anything out what to do next. I was so worried. My stress level began to reach higher in that whole week.
In 2009 the country was going through a bad recession. I thought; let’s go ahead and start looking for new job. I created a new Resume. I applied for many positions but didn’t get a response. After applying so many positions nationwide; I received very few responses because there were few positions in the market, and too many candidates. It became too hard to get jobs. I wasn’t selected after couple of interviews. I decided to get training in something new technology and after long research, I found new Microsoft product, Microsoft Office SharePoint server 2007. It is very good, Microsoft’s history selling product, and popular in job market as well. I started training in one of a training and job placement company, inbound solution Inc. The training was too difficult because it was totally new to me. I slowly started working hard. I put all my time into the training. It went up to three months and training was over, so I was told that to be ready for the new project.
Finally, I received a contract position in Microsoft SharePoint in Annapolis, Maryland; where I faced too many challenges and technical difficulties. But I gained great experiences. However, that was in different position; I have learned so many things, such as the ways of researching, getting to know the point, collecting right resource and contents, and communicating and collaborating with the team. More importantly I have gained a lot of technical experiences. The greatest lesson that I ever had was accepting challenges and doing hard work. Definitely, it will bring a positive results and success.
